My name is Louise and I am a local mum with 2 young children.
Over the years, like most of us, I have been bombarded with information relating to climate change and the state of our planet. In the end I decided to stop reading news stories and bury my head in the sand. Faced with all this information with no way to do anything about it, I felt completely powerless and worried.
This year I was finally galvanised into action by a video of a talk I watched online describing our current situation. Enough was enough, it was time to do something!
I set up Saffron Walden Action on Climate Change on the 6th November 2018 and by the 8th we had 156 members, that number is growing every day - we are now at over 700!
SWACC has now changed!!
In order to make this group sustainable, SWACC has changed into a Collective (Committee). There are now 5 members in the Collective and we will run the group together focusing on one big project at a time which all SWACC members can get involved in.
We are all parents with young children so we will be running SWACC together, looking after each other and moving forwards to help stop cliimate change and bring Safron Walden to the forefront of climate action.
SWACC's tag line is:
The SWACC Collective will be working on the 'LEARN MORE', organising evenings, group meetings and more.
If we 'LEARN MORE' it can help us to connect with what's going on and so we can 'CARE MORE' about our planet.
Next is the 'DO MORE' and thats where YOU come in.
Recently, SWACC members have started taking on their own projects and ideas (details below), and have succeeded in bringing our community together and putting on incredible, inspiring events!
If you have an idea or a project you'd like to start then
GO FOR IT!
You do not need to ask our permission, just let us know what you are planning. As long as it aligns with SWACC's aims and objectives then you can use the SWACC name. If needed we can give advice and help to find others to work with you on your project. As always please promote anything you are doing on the FB page so that other members can be inspired to take action too. No project is too big or too small.
Stepping up and taking action can be scary, but it can also help you to feel more in control of the terrifying situation we find ourselves in. It can help ease the worry that comes with facing climate change head on, and happily you can meet lots of lovely new people and have a laugh at the same time!
What are you waiting for?!
